Accra and Guadalajara Book Capitals partner to promote books & reading

Accra (Ghana) and Guadalajara (Mexico) have initiated a project to promote authorship, books and reading. The project involves the exchange of stories, poems, books and authors between the two World Book Capitals. The project will also involve a possible translation of books from each of the two Book Capitals into the other’s language.
As a first step, stories/books by selected Ghanaian authors are to be promoted in Mexico through reading sessions, live tv and radio interviews, in-person author sessions with the reading public, and other engagements.
Subsequently, the project will also involve the publication of an anthology of stories and poems by children from the two Book Capitals. The aim of the project is to promote reading, introduce readers in the two World Book Capitals to each other’s books, authors and culture. The project was jointly initiated by Martin Solares and Ernesticia Lartey Asuinura (the Coordinators of the Guadalajara World Book Capital, 2022 and Accra World Book Capital, 2023 respectively). The first set of three books by Ghanaian authors has since been shortlisted in collaboration with the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), for the commencement of the project.
