Led by the Ghana Library Authority, a Mobile Library Service Team visited James Town on 4th August, 2023 to engage children in the community in reading activities. This was part of activities earmarked towards the celebration of Accra World Book Capital, 2023. The team was joined by the Greater Accra Regional Head of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Edward Addo-Yobo,  and Mr.


Accra World Book Capital, 2023, as part of its activities earmarked for the year, in collaboration with the Ghana Association of Writers, held a book review programme for students from selected Senior High Schools in Tema on Sunday, 30th July 2023.

The book reviewed was Ama Ata Aidoo's A Girl Who Can.


As part of activities of Accra World Book Capital, 2023, an ICT Training Programme was organised for out-of-school children on Friday, 28th July 2023 in Accra.

The event which was organized on Wednesday, 5 July, 2023 was a library project which Rainbow Trust Foundation donated 2100 books, some bags and shelves to the school’s library. This was followed by education on how to use the library and maintain books in the library. Model reading activities were also undertaken.


he 20th Ghana International Book Fair (GIBF), which comes off on the 10th – 13th August 2023 at the Accra International Conference Centre 2023 was launched on 8th June 2023 by Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Hon. Mark Okraku-Mantey. 


The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC) was established in 1975 as an Agency under the Ministry of Education. The objective of the Council is to ensure the development, publication, and distribution of textbooks and other reading materials in Ghana to foster national development.
