The Director-General of UNESCO Madam Audrey Azoulay is in Accra to join the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to open the Accra World Book Capital (AWBC) 2023.

UNESCO Director-General, Madam Audrey Azoulay and the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are hosting the grand opening of the Accra World Book Capital 2023 in Accra.

A Press Briefing was held by the Minister for Education, Hon Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP) in collaboration with the Mayor of Accra, Hon .


Accra has signed UNESCO Book Capital Network Charter. The ceremony took place at the Mayor’s Office today, February 10, 2023. Accra joins 13 cities who have already signed the Charter.

As part of Mr. Ian Denison's visit to Accra to assess the City's readiness to host the title year, he met agencies and the various book industry associations

Mr. Ian Denison, the Global Coordinator of the World Book Capital Programme is in Accra, Ghana to assess the City's readiness to host the UNESCO World Book Capital, 2023 title. The year-long programme commences on the 23ʳᵈ April 2023 to 22ⁿᵈ April 2024. Mr. Denison paid courtesy calls on Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo (The Country Director, UNESCO Ghana), Hon. Dr.


The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC) was established in 1975 as an Agency under the Ministry of Education. The objective of the Council is to ensure the development, publication, and distribution of textbooks and other reading materials in Ghana to foster national development.
