Accra World Book Capital 2023 to Participate in Guadalajara World Book Capital 2022

The Ambassador of Mexico to Ghana, His Excellency, Mr. Enrique Escorza has visited the Secretariat of the Accra World Book Capital 2023 (AWBC, 2023) to extend an invitation to Mrs. Ernesticia Lartey Asuinura, Executive Director of the Ghana Book Development Council, to the official opening of Guadalajara World Book Capital, 2022 in April 2022.  Conveying the invitation letter from Mr. Jesús Pablo Lemus Navarro, the Mayor of Guadalajara, to Mrs. Asuinura on 25th March 2022, His Excellency Mr. Escorza reiterated his desire to see a sister-city relationship between Accra and Guadalajara beyond the world book capital celebration.

In response, Mrs. Asuinura expressed her appreciation to His Excellency, Mr. Enrique Escorza for the visit and the invitation, and further to Mr. Jesús Pablo Lemus Navarro. She said the partnership with Guadalajara World Book Capital, 2022 will afford the AWBC, 23 Secretariat the opportunity to share ideas and best practices for their mutual benefit. In addition, she was looking forward to the partnership benefiting the book industry in both cities and the two countries.

Present at the meeting was the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Mexico in Ghana, Mr. Arturo Salazar. The others were Ms. Mavis Asante and Mr. Kofi Asante Twumasi, both of the AWBC, 2023 Secretariat.

The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC) was established in 1975 as an Agency under the Ministry of Education. The objective of the Council is to ensure the development, publication, and distribution of textbooks and other reading materials in Ghana to foster national development.
