Opening Ceremony of Pop-up Exhibition of German Books in Accra

The Official Opening Ceremony of the Pop-up Exhibition of German books in Accra, was held Friday, 10th November 2023 at the National Children and Mobile Library (NCML), Accra. The Pop-up Exhibition is a collaboration between the Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC) and Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt Book Fair).

Present at the Opening Ceremony was a representative from the Embassy of the Republic of Germany, the Executive Director of GBDC, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), and the Ayawaso West Municipal Director of Education. The event was chaired by Ms. Akoss Ofori-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of Sub-Saharan Publishers Ltd. Also, in attendance were representatives from Ghana Publishers Association and Ghana Association of Writers, staff of GBDC and GhLA, and some pupils and teachers from Roman Ridge M/A Basic School.

The array of books on display are mainly published in Germany. Some of the books are published in the English language while some others are in German. The exhibition, which is being held at the NCML, started on 2nd November 2023 and will end on 2nd December 2023. This event is part of the yearlong celebration of Accra World Book Capital, 2023.
